How to Hang a Framed Canvas: Simple Step-by-Step Guide

What you'll need
- Tape measure and pencil
- Hammer (for picture hooks) or drill (for wall plugs)
- Spirit level - or the level app on your phone

Step 1: Find the height
The centre of the artwork should sit at eye level - about 145cm from the floor. Above furniture, leave 15-25cm between the furniture top and the frame bottom instead.
Step 2: Match the hook to your wall
- Plasterboard: standard picture hooks handle most sizes; use two hooks (or a wall anchor) for 90cm+ canvases
- Brick or masonry: drill with a masonry bit, use a wall plug and screw

Step 3: Measure, mark, hang
- Measure from the top of the frame down to the taut hanging wire or bracket - call it X
- Decide where the top of the frame should sit, measure down X, and mark the spot

Keep a consistent 5-8cm gap between pieces and align them through their centre line. For a pair above a bed, treat both canvases plus the gap as one artwork and centre the group on the headboard.
